The UX Design/Hacker workshop was an opportunity to invite UX designers, hackers and digital experts to extend the design and functionality of the digital tools developed by the CXDT project over a two-day hackathon event. Participants had the opportunity to work in small groups to create rapid UX prototypes that explored different aspects of clothes repair and how technology can help consumers carry out creative repairs to their garments to transform from consumers to repairers.
The workshop included a demonstration of the technology tools developed for the CXDT project including the: Damage Detector, Repair Projector, Chatbot, VR repair guidance, EMG affective touch/gesture recognition tool.
A repair expert attended the workshop to present a range of stitching and repair techniques and discuss the challenges that novice repairers face. They also distributed a small repair kit for each participant to practice stitching.
Five mini-briefs were presented to the participants as a way to introduce them to the some of the practical and conceptual challenges facing novice repairers as they learn the stages and steps of the process. In summary, 20 participants attended the event consisting of 7 professionals, 7 masters students, 2 PhD students and 4 graduates.
The Repair Platform connects users to skilled repairers with repair knowledge and, who can showcase their work through portfolios. Users can easily find suitable repairers or access tutorials based on their clothing damage, empowering them to make informed repair choices.
